Hot Chocolate and Earl Grey Lavender Latte

It's coffee day. Why? Because I went to 2 cafes with friend and had 2 cups of coffee!

I went to Alor Setar to meet my friend, Jooi and we had our lunch in Tiffz Coffee Gallery. I picked the place as I had not gone there before. Tiffz Coffee Gallery is located in Simpang Kuala. It's in the same row with and it's on the second floor. It's not easy to find it for the first time, just look for the signboard on the 2nd floor.

Upon stepping into Tiffz Coffe Gallery, I could see the counter and some seats on the left and there were more seats on the right. The overall environment was relaxing and it's a great place to escape from busy life to enjoy a cup of coffee. There was a large square Portuguese style floor tiles that attracted me.

Both of us ordered spaghetti. I ordered Green Secret Spaghetti (RM11). It's green spaghetti with green sauce. I ordered this as it looked so healthy. Lol! Jooi ordered Tomato Secret Spaghetti (RM10). It's just like the classic tomato spaghetti with hams and egg. What made their spaghetti special was the half-cooked egg in the centre of the spaghetti! It's attractive and looked yummy.

However, we were a little bit of disappointed of their spaghetti. It's quite moist. Jooi went there with her classmates at night and she told me their food tasted better than afternoon! Maybe we didn't have the luck to try their best spaghetti or the chef was not in mood in the afternoon? We were not so satisfied and would like to try again next time. :3 I wanted to try their pizza next time.

For coffee, I ordered hot Rose Latte (8oz RM9). The first time I had Rose Latte. I had had rose tea before but this time rose petals were added to the latte. There was strong aroma of rose in the latte. It tasted nice and for me it's more suitable for girl. Just my own opinion. XP But be aware not to stir the rose petal into the latte because I accidentally ate it. It's would be not nice for girl to spit out the petals.

Then, Jooi felt like to drink hot chocolate from Caffe Diem. So, we went to another cafe and had my second cup of coffee. Caffe Diem is located in Pekan Cina. It's opposite to Terrace Forty Eight [Bar & Restaurant]. It's quite hard to find parking space in Pekan Cina but we were quite lucky that day. I'd been to Caffe Diem for a few times. I like the place as it's an old shop and the cafe didn't change much structure from the original.

Since we were already full, we ordered coffee only. Certainly, Jooi ordered a hot chocolate (RM9) as that was our purpose there. I wanted to try something new. So, I had Earl Grey Lavender Latte (RM9), tea with coffee sounded weird and it tasted not ordinary too! The taste of tea was much stronger than coffee and it almost covered the taste of the coffee. Overall, it didn't manage to surprise me. I would prefer stronger taste of coffee since I was drinking coffee, not tea.

Making a smile face by using the spoon. LOL

That's it for our outing. Will meet her again some day when I'm going to Alor Setar.

A cup of coffee on the wall

There are so much cafes pop out in Alor Setar since last year. Each cafe has different theme and speciality. For me, a top rated cafe will provide heartwarming service to his customers, has their own special brewed coffee and nice environment.

Recently, I had my coffee hunting [from the phrase food hunting lol] in Alor Setar. The first cafe is Coffee Books & Rain Cafe. I just randomly chose a cafe I felt like to go.

Coffee Books & Rain Cafe card

Coffee Books & Rain Cafe is located near Hong Leong Bank in Jalan Pegawai. It's a little bit difficult to find the exact location. Just turn into the entrance between Petronas and Hong Leong Bank and go straight until the T-junction. Then, turn left and you will see the cafe painted in black on your left soon. To explain it in a simple way, it is located behind those shops. Haha.

The first impression when I stepped into the cafe was the tables looked a little bit messy. But, this is good one, not a bad comment. I don't like cafe with tables and chairs organised too tidy like a restaurant. For me, it's order within disorder. Haha. The special about the tables here was oil tank tables. The oil tank was used as table but it looks kinda small for me.

Outdoor seats

I had no idea what coffee I wanted to drink. So, I asked the barista to  recommend me. He recommended me latte speculoos. So, what is speculoos? Speculoos is  a subtle mix of spices such as cinnamon, white pepper, ginger, cardamom and nutmeg. The coffee had the nice smell of cinnamon and I liked it. It's not too sweet. So, those who don't like rather sweet coffee like mocha, cappuccino etc can try this.

Coffee and Drinks

Hot Latte Speculoos

Plain water is provided! Seriously need some water after drinking coffee.

A cup of coffee beans

There's only coffee and cakes served in this cafe. If you're looking for a relaxing place to hang around with friends, you can consider here. The drinks here are not too expensive and the ambiance is nice.

I stayed there for about 2 hours alone, writing journal and taking some photos.  I needed some courage to walk around and take photos. Luckily, there were not much customers during that time.
But, I still feel a little awkward to walk around there. :o

I didn't finish the coffee and left a little bit. Why? Because I was going to trap the smell of the coffee in my weekly planner! ;p It sounds weird I know. I just drew the cups and painted it with some coffee. I liked the outcome as it's the real colour and smell of coffee. However, it smelled quite sweet after it dried.

The yellow Spongebob attracted me!

The Malaysia Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo 2010 Postcard

I've been joining Postcrossing for several years. I was introduced to it from newspaper. Through Postcrossing, I got many beautiful postcards with nice stamps and greetings from many countries. Currently, I have sent 53 postcards to 14 countries and received 57 postcards from 19 countries. I'm still writing postcard when I'm free. Now, I would like to introduce what is Postcrossing.

What is Postcrossing?

The goal of this project is to allow people to receive postcards from all over the world. The main idea is that: if you send a postcard, you will receive one back from a random Postcrosser from somewhere in the world.

Why? Because, like the founder, there are lots of people who like to receive real mail. The element of surprise of receiving postcards from different places in the world (many of which you probably have never heard of) can turn your mailbox into a box of surprises - and who wouldn't like that?

Postcrossing

How it works?
Get an address randomly chosen by the system and post the postcard to the address given. Other members will send you postcards by the same way.

So, how to join Postcrossing?
First, you have to register an account in postcrossing.com. Fill your information and don't forget to fill the correct address as others are going to send you postcards. In the column [About You], you can write anything about you。 You could write the special postcards you wish to get(if you like specific things).

How to send a postcard?

To send a postcard, request an address at [Send a postcard] and you will be given an address of a member and a Postcard ID. You can write or draw anything you like on the postcard. Some members have specific requires for postcards, you can send them according their wishlist if you have it. The most important thing is don't forget to write the Postcard ID given on the postcard. That is how the member can register your postcard and you can send another postcard again. In Malaysia, postage rate for postcard to other countries is only 50sen. It's cheap since sending a letter in Malaysia already costs 60sen now.

Send a postcard

What to do when I receive a postcard?
The greatest moment when joining this activity is the time I receive a postcard. You will never know when the postcard will reach to you. For me, it's a surprise in my mailbox. Upon receiving a postcard, there is a Postcard ID on it and you have to register it. Register Postcard ID at [Register a postcard] and you can write some words to thanks the person sending you a postcard.

Register a postcard

Can I swap postcards with other members?

Sure you can. If you are so eager to get a postcard from a specific country but you just can't get it or you want some specific postcards, you can swap directly with the members. Notice if the members are interested in direct swap in the profile. If they are interested in it, you could send them a message by stating your request. Or when a member send you a message to ask you for direct swap, you can say yes or no. It's up to you whether you want to swap or no. I had received message from other members to swap postcard with me but I can't remember if I had swap with them.

It's really fun to join Postcrossing especially when I get a postcard in my wishlist. When I have sent some postcards, I can't wait to receive postcards. And you will never know what kind of postcards will be sent to you, which country send to you or what message will be written on the postcard. That is a small thing that will make my day.

Here is my Postcrossing ID if you want to take a look at my profile: cicis

In my next post, I will show some of the postcards I had received. Follow me. :)
